Honeycomb is a Bible-reading adventure for kids, teens and adults. We collect only what the app needs to save your reading and run the app. We never show ads, never track you across other apps or websites, and never sell anyone's information.
This policy explains what Honeycomb Bible LLC ("Honeycomb", "we", "us") collects through the Honeycomb Bible app for iPhone and this website, why, and the choices you have. If you have a question, email [email protected].
1. What we store
Your account
Your email address and password (used only to sign in and reset your password), the display name you choose, and the date you agreed to our terms. If your iPhone shares an age range when you create the account and it shows a teen (13 to 17) or was set by a parent or guardian, we keep only that broad range (for example 13 to 15) and nothing else from it.
Child reader profiles
A name (a real name or a fun nickname), a broad age group and a picture (Ollie or Lila and a colour), chosen by the account holder. See Children below.
Reading progress
Which chapters were read, when, and for how long, so we can restore islands, count streaks, move your kart in Rooms and update Missions. If you highlight sentences in a Deep Read study, we save those highlights (the book, chapter and a short snippet of the sentence) so they appear on all your devices.
Game progress
Honey, tickets, karts, paints, upgrades and tracks, trophies and stamps, game scores, and Room race and Race Duel results.
Welcome questions
If you answer the welcome questions (who you read with, readers' age groups, your pace and what would help most), we save your answers to build your reading plan.
Reports, blocks and support messages
If you report a name or block a Room member, we keep the report (who reported, the name and Room reported, the reason and any note) so our team can review it, and the block list so the app can hide that person from you. Reports are emailed to our support inbox. If you email us, we keep your message and reply so we can help.
2. Rooms and rankings
A Room is a private group you create or join with a six-character invite code. Room members can see each other's display names, chapter counts and race standings. The only message one member can send another is a fixed, pre-written "Nudge" reminder to read. There is no chat or free-text messaging anywhere in Honeycomb.
World rankings list only adult accounts that have chosen to appear. Accounts are hidden unless they opt in, and child reader profiles are never listed.
3. Purchases
Honeycomb Plus and any other in-app purchases are paid through Apple. Apple processes the payment; we never see your card or payment details. To unlock what you bought on every device, we store the product, its App Store transaction ID and environment, and its purchase, renewal, expiry and refund dates. If you redeem an offer or launch code, we store that it was redeemed. Apple's own handling of your payment is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Diagnostics and app events
When something goes wrong, the app sends diagnostic information: for example an error message, which screen it happened on, the app and iOS version, the type of device, and how long some screens take to load. If the app freezes, closes unexpectedly or runs short of memory, it also sends a short report of what was on screen and the last few screens and taps (never what you typed or read), along with crash and freeze reports from your device. This information is not linked to your account, does not include your name or what you read, and is deleted after 30 days.
If you choose Report a problem in Settings, the note you write is sent with the same information. It is not linked to your account, so include your name or email only if you want us to reply.
When the app installs an update, it records whether the update worked, with your account, so we can fix problems. We also record simple in-app events (for example, which screens were opened and whether a reading plan was chosen) to improve Honeycomb. These stay in our own database, are never used for advertising, and are deleted with your account.
5. Notifications
If you allow notifications, we store your device's notification token and time zone so we can send reminders and Room updates (for example, when someone passes you in the Cup) at sensible times. You can turn notifications off at any time in your iPhone's Settings; the token is deleted with your account.
6. What we don't collect
- No location, contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health information.
- No payment card details (Apple handles payment).
- No advertising identifiers, and no advertising, analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No tracking across other companies' apps or websites, and no selling or "sharing" of personal information for advertising.
7. How we use information
We use the information above only to:
- run your account and save your reading and game progress on every device;
- run Rooms, the Honeycomb Cup, Race Duels, rankings and games;
- unlock what you bought and keep the race fair (for example, checking that a chapter was really read);
- send the reminders and updates you allowed;
- keep Honeycomb safe, review reports and enforce our Terms of Use;
- find and fix bugs and make the app faster and better; and
- answer your support requests and meet legal obligations.
We never use reading history, children's information or anything else for advertising.
8. Who we share it with
We share information only with service providers that help us run Honeycomb, under contracts that limit their use of it:
- Supabase hosts our database, sign-in and server functions. Each account can read only its own data.
- Cloudflare hosts this website and forwards email sent to our support addresses.
- Apple processes in-app purchases and delivers push notifications.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to protect the safety of a person, or as part of a merger or sale of the business (in which case this policy continues to apply). We do not sell personal information. Some progress is also saved on your device so the app works without a connection.
Honeycomb is run from the United States, and information is stored with our providers in the United States or in other countries where they operate.
9. Children
Honeycomb is for readers of every age. Kids should use it with a parent or guardian's permission, and a parent can add a reader profile for each child on their own phone.
- A reader profile holds a name (a real name or a fun nickname), a picture of ours, a broad age group, and that reader's reading and game progress, so their adventure is saved. It has no email address, phone number or login of its own.
- There is no chat anywhere in Honeycomb, and no one can add photos. Rooms are private and joined only with an invite code. Purchases are made through Apple, so Apple's Ask to Buy and Screen Time controls apply.
- A parent can see, change or delete a reader profile and its progress at any time in Settings โ Readers & account, or by emailing us.
We use children's information only to provide the app, never for advertising, and we share it only with the service providers listed above. If you believe a child has given us personal information without a parent's permission, email [email protected] and we will delete it.
10. Deleting your data
You can delete your account at any time in the app: Settings โ Delete account, then Delete forever. This permanently removes your account and its reader profiles, reading and game progress, highlights, Room memberships, race results and purchase records from our servers, signs you out and clears Honeycomb's data from the device.
Parents can remove a single child reader profile in Settings โ Readers & account. You can also email [email protected] from the address on the account and we will delete it for you.
Deleting your account does not cancel an App Store subscription. Cancel it in your Apple Account settings first (see Support).
11. How long we keep it
- Account, progress and purchase records: until you delete your account or reader profile.
- Anonymous diagnostics: 30 days.
- Reports and support emails: as long as needed to resolve them and keep Honeycomb safe.
- Our providers keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses) for a short time to operate and secure the service.
- Backups are overwritten on a rolling schedule, so deleted data can take a short time to leave them.
12. Your choices and rights
You can see and change most of your information in the app, and delete it at any time. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or to object to or limit how we use it. Email [email protected] and we will respond within the time the law requires. We will not treat you differently for using these rights.
13. Security
Information is encrypted in transit, and our database rules let each account read only its own data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if a breach affects you, as the law requires.
14. Changes and contact
If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we will tell you in the app before the change takes effect, and update the date at the top of this page.
